The S-Class Unveiled! (Soon!...with spy photos)

Mark Halpern

What better way to pay tribute to the Mercedes-Benz brand than to dedicate our first official blog post to the car that has set the industry standard for full-size luxury sedans: the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Since the turn of the century, the progressive engineering and ambition of Mercedes-Benz has launched its vehicles into our driveways, our minds, and the tip of our tongues as one of the most recognized luxury brands in the world.

(evolution of the S-Class)

The first official S-Class ancestor was born in 1954: the type 220. The type 220 was the first Mercedes-Benz model with a six-cylinder engine and a unitized body design. In 1956 it was dubbed the 220 S (or W180II) and from that point forward, the 'S' label became the standard for the most opulent of Mercedes-Benz vehicles (mercedes-benz-classic.com).

With the official unveiling of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class less than 30 days away (May 15th), many are anxiously anticipating the new features and body styling this luxury sedan classic has to offer. With the elimination of the Maybach, the S-Class is back on top as the premiere luxury model for Mercedes-Benz. The interior of the 2014 model has been described as a 'spa' on wheels boasting joint flat screen displays on the dashboard, completely redesigned user interface, heated/massage seating, limo-like rear seating, interior fragrance dispenser, and hand-stitching in the throwback steering wheel design to name just a few of the tantalizing goodies in this behemoth reborn (forbes.com). For a closer look at the magnificent interior, take a look here.

As far as the exterior is concerned, modern touches have propelled the S-Class beyond the realm of superior design aesthetics. The rear of the vehicle pays homage to the Maybach with it's trunk-lid and adds a dash of CL/CLA flavor including LED accents in the taillights. Overall, the car is armed with stronger lines maintaining an airy and luxurious quality as if it could float above the asphalt. How about some spy photos? And some more.

'Exciting' would be a vast understatement when referring to the unveiling of the most powerfully luxurious sedan on planet Earth...so you can come up with your own term for the exact opposite of how I feel when I think of the apocalypse. Until the unveiling, everyone.
